CONCERNS have been raised about the welfare of numerous animals which may have been abandoned on a field in Stroud.

Goats, horses, hens and rabbits are among the animals which have appeared on the field next to the Seven Stars.

The animal welfare team at East Hampshire District Council is investigating as the animals have been left on the land in poor conditions and with limited food.

The team has also been in contact with the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) and an ‘abandonment notice’ has been served which means the animals will become the responsibility of the landowner if they are not removed before this Sunday.

A similar ‘abandonment notice’ was served earlier this year when horses appeared on the field.

The animals have no obvious owner while their security is a major concern as several chickens and rabbits have escaped in the last few days.
