Petersfield Lions secretary Trevor Copping attended the unveiling of a replacement bench which the group raised money for, so stroke survivors could enjoy sitting outside Petersfield Community Centre.

There were approximately 40 people at the event, including a founder member of Petersfield Stroke Association, now its chairperson, Maureen Gilbert, association secretary Rosemary Elborough, as well as stroke survivors, volunteers, friends and relatives.

Those affected by strokes are referred to the group by the national Stroke Association.

Volunteers work with the survivors each week for two hours, including a refreshment break, to help them regain confidence and to enable them have a worthwhile life.

They are supported by Charlotte Salvetti-Langton of Body and Mind Physiotherapy, and Sue Brown, of the Runny Honey’s running club, who recently raised £656 for the stroke group through a sponsored run round the Heath.

The stroke group also enjoy days out and theatre trips.

And the group hold an annual fundraising event – this year on the August 6, from 10am to 2pm with free entry.
