LIPHOOK Carnival committee chairman Karen Feeney is stepping down from the role at this year’s annual general meeting.
Karen has been the chairman for the last ten years, and will remain on the committee.
She says she is stepping down due to work and family commitments.
Karen said: “I’ve just started a new job as the manager of the Triangle Centre in Liss and I can’t keep juggling all of the balls.
“I’ve got family and I’ve almost abandoned them for the last ten years. I owe it to my family and the new job to step down. I’m overjoyed to get the job at the Triangle.
“If I didn’t step down now, I wouldn’t have the time to do it any more.
“There are a lot of people involved and I can’t sustain it any more at that level.”
Karen also confirmed she will help the new chairman settle into the role.
She said: “Nobody in the committee has put their hand up, but, hopefully, someone from outside the committee will step forward.
“I’m very sad and I will miss it. I’m staying on the committee though and I will help the new person.
“The chairman needs to be someone who wants to make a commitment to the community. It is a great way to get involved and it is great fun. When it runs smoothly on the night it is a great night.
“The committee is a great network of people and we have meetings in pubs.”
Karen admitted that she has enjoyed her time as carnival committee chairman.
She said: “The carnival is stressful, but it is a great chance to meet people in the village.
“It was an honour to be in charge, and I was proud when it went well. I got a real buzz on carnival night.
“We all get stale and I think it is time for a fresh pair of eyes to look at it and modify it.”
The Liphook Carnival committee’s annual general meeting will be held at the Peak Centre at 7.30pm on Wednesday, March 8. Money will be donated to good causes at the meeting.
Karen said:?“Any money requests need to be in as soon as possible, as the committee will meet and discuss them.”
