CHILDREN in Year 3 at Brookham School in Liphook have been studying the Ancient Egyptians and as part of this they visited Haslemere Museum where they learnt about how and why the Ancient Egyptians mummified bodies.

It was a fascinating, eye-opening and slightly stomach churning experience. The children looked at x-rays of a mummy, observed the mummies in the museum, and finished by ‘mummifying’ their very own teddy. The young Egyptologists have been making the most of all that the South of England has to offer in their exploration of Ancient Egyptian civilisation.

Thanks to CREW drama workshops, they had a visit from ‘Professor Maggie Wheeler’ where they learnt about one of the most famous pharaohs, Rameses II.

Earlier in the term, they visited Highclere Castle, home of Lord Carnarvon, best known as the financial backer of the search for and the excavation of Tutankhamun’s tomb. The children have also enjoyed dressing up as pharaohs, putting their names in Cartouches using hieroglyphs, and drawing some amazing Egyptian scenes on real papyrus.
