THE SPEAKERS at the March meeting of Liphook Women’s Institute (WI) gave a fascinating look into the founding history and workings behind the scenes within the local unit of Macmillan Cancer Support.
The charity aims to provide both support and nursing care to patients to keep them in their homes, along with practical help to patients’ families to support this care.
Nationally, Macmillan has a huge amount of information available and this talk highlighted the unique and highly successful ‘Midhurst model’ of care.
The speakers were two members of Liphook WI who are both heavily involved, one as a Macmillan nurse attached to the Pearson Unit of Midhurst Community Hospital and the other as a fundraiser and volunteer in the Macmillan Charity Shop in Midhurst raising much-needed funds for this patient support to continue in the region.
Liphook WI is a friendly group of women who meet once a month for an evening meeting with a speaker and refreshments.
‘Handbags and Handcuffs’ is the title of the scheduled talk at the next meeting, which will be held next Wednesday, April 20.
The meeting will start at 7.30pm at the Liphook Village Hall, just off The Square in Liphook.
New members are always welcome to attend the meetings, so if anyone fancies joining the group or just wants to come along and see if this is something they would like, Liphook WI would love to hear from them.
