SERENITY Beauty Room in Liss celebrated its first anniversary with a fundraising day for Petersfield-based family support charity Home-Start Butser.

Offering taster sessions of massages, radiant skincare, manicures, pedicures and holistic therapies and a raffle supported by businesses, Serenity raised more than £600.

Home-Start manager Nicola Winter said: “This is a fantastic amount of money and will go towards training volunteers to support families and children who are going through a critical time in their lives.

“The work of Home-Start Butser’s 60 volunteers has been shown to transform the lives of families and children and it is the chance to work with families that motivates people to start volunteering for us in the first place.

“It is the relationship that is built between a family and their volunteer that makes Home-Start’s work so unique, and it is why it has such a lasting impact on both family and volunteer.

“If people don’t want to train as a home visiting volunteer, we can always do with help in the office, fundraising, on our management committee, supporting our family groups or becoming an ambassador for the charity.”

The next preparation course for volunteers starts on April 26, in the Triangle Centre in Liss. The only requirement is parenting experience.

It is keen to recruit fathers and grandfathers as well as parents from diverse ethnic backgrounds.
