A CHILDREN’S eco-choir from Liss has made it to the semi-finals of the prime-time television talent show Britain’s Got Talent.

The children aged up to 16 years old performed the heartfelt song SOS from the Kids that is dedicated to saving the planet from climate change.

While they sang, they held up placards calling for action now, action to save the polar bears and the bees and to stop dumping plastic in the sea.

Some of the children, including founder of the choir 12-year-old Sim Macaulay and his brother Noah, aged 14, both from Liss, sang solo lines to communicate the message.

In one line, Sim references big brands and corporations who refuse to acknowledge the urgency of the crisis:

“Don’t listen to the fat cats, they only want their cream. Always need oil, for feeding their machines.”

The choir was formed after Sim and Noah saw David Attenborough’s documentary Climate Change – The Facts.

They were so inspired they formed the choir, who rehearse in St Mary’s Church hall in Liss.

The song the choir performed that got them through to the Britain’s Got Talent semi-final this Saturday was written by Sim and his mum Dorry, a freelance musician.

She said: “‘The lyrics are very much pointing at me – I, as an adult, need to ‘change the story.’

“It’s my generation that needs to take responsibility – we’ve left a legacy that my kids will bear the consequences of.

“This song is a wake-up call to myself and all grown-ups.

“It started as a way to channel our family’s feelings of despondency into something proactive, something that has hope and that other people could join us in.”

Sim and his small troupe first performed the song in July 2019 to politicians.

They busked on the street outside Winchester Council Chambers, attracting a crowd of MPs and policy makers gathering to debate on climate issues.

Word spread fast and before long, hundreds of kids joined them to sing at September’s Global Youth Strike for Climate at Parliament Square in London.

All proceeds from the song will go toward environmental causes.
