LISS Junior School headteacher Andrew Burford has decided to retire after 20 years in the role.

Mr Burford finished at the school at the end of the 2015-16 academic year.

Mr Burford said: “When I started at Liss Junior School the new school building had just been built and I was given a blank canvas.

“Lots of children have gone through the school in that time and it is always good to hear about how they are getting on and the success they are having.

“I would like to say a big thank-you to all the people who have been on the journey with me.

“It has been a real privilege to be a leader of this school for the last 20 years.”

Staff, children and parents showed their appreciation for Mr Burford with a variety of events organised in his last week in the job to celebrate his work at the school.

Mr Burford said: “The school has given me a fantastic send-off, as have the children and the parents.

“The end of the school year is always a special time anyway as we say goodbye to our Year 6 children.”

Mr Burford already has plans for his retirement to keep himself busy, and would like to spend more time with his family.

He said: “I’m going to spend more time with my grandchildren.

“I’m also going to spend more time gardening, and I’m going to go on a motorbike trip to northern Spain with my wife and some friends.”

The new headteacher at Liss Junior School will be Jillian Myers, who was previously the headteacher at Weyford Junior School in Bordon.

“The school is in a good position for my successor to take it on the next stage of the journey,” added Mr Burford.

“I’m very proud to leave the school well placed for the future.”
