A LISS villager has won the Radian Good Neighbour of the Year award.

Ray Betsworth won the award for his work at Rother House and with Age Concern Hampshire.

Radian housing officer Richard Bingham presented Ray with his award at Rother House on February 20, as Ray had been unable to attend the awards night which Radian had organised.

Richard said: “I nominated Ray for the Good Neighbour of the Year award for his work in Rother House and I’m very pleased he’s won the award.

“Ray’s very important at Rother House.

“He helped set up the games club and he helps organise the fish and chips for the residents.

“He is also the Age Concern Hampshire village representative for Liss and he helps people in Liss get the help they need.”

Age Concern Hampshire village agents project co-ordinator Anne Harrison was also full of praise for Ray.

She said: “We have 50 volunteers who patrol the rural parts of Hampshire.

“They signpost older people to the facilities they need in their village.

“Ray has lived in Liss for many years and people know and trust him.”

After receiving the award a humble Ray insisted the award reflected well on everyone at Rother House and not just himself.

Ray said: “My name is on the award but it’s down to the residents. Without the residents here this wouldn’t have happened.

“Rother House is a very caring place, and people go to extreme lengths here to help.

“The Christmas dinner at Rother House is up there with the Ritz.

“It is very much a team effort and it is not down to just one person. Rother House is a fabulous place to live, and if you can find a better place to live I’d be surprised.”
