A LISS woman was inspired to lose more than eight stone after her dream holiday became a struggle.
Marilyn Cunningham was ready for the holiday of a lifetime, touring North America to celebrate her husband’s retirement, however at 17-and-a-half stone, the 354 steps up the Statue of Liberty were a huge struggle.
Realising her weight was having such an effect on her health and day to day life, Marilyn joined her local Weight Watchers meeting as soon as she was home from the US.
With a slow and steady approach on the Weight Watchers plan, Marilyn has lost eight stone three pounds and gained a new lease of life.
Marilyn said: “I had a high blood pressure and an underactive thyroid.
“My weight loss journey has been slow but I have learned healthy eating and portion control, while still enjoying wonderful holidays and social events.”
As well as embracing the eating plan through her meetings with Haslemere leader Lisa Richardson, Marilyn also found a new found love for exercise, with tai chi, the gym and a walking group keeping her on the move.
“I can honestly say I have never felt more healthy or fitter than I do now,” said Marilyn.
“I have gained self-confidence, self-respect and a new zest for life. For the first time in my life I am trying new challenges without worrying what other people may think about me. I love buying fashionable clothes now and feel 20 years younger, with a lot more energy.”
Now looking to maintain her weight, Marilyn says Lisa’s support is important.
“The Weight Watchers meetings are so important, I look forward to going every week, celebrating successes and sharing hints and tips.
“It doesn’t matter how old you are, or how long your journey takes, we can all achieve our goals.”
