A LISS woman has had her hair shaved off to raise money for a children’s cancer charity.

Sandra Gard braved the chop at Liss Village Hall to raise funds for the Piam Brown Ward, which is part of the Southampton Hospital Charity.

The ward cares for children from a day old to 16 years of age and treats all types of cancer, of which leukaemia is the most common. Lorraine Mansbridge, who shaved Sandra’s hair, was herself treated at the ward when she was only ten.

Sandra was hoping to raise £1,000, and smashed her target by raising £2,100.

Sandra said: “It was a massive success.

“The hall was packed and we raised over £700 at the event making a grand total of just over £2,000, with more money still coming in.

“Vivid Imaginations donated a lot of toys for the raffle, and we will be taking some of them to give directly to the Piam Brown Ward.”

As well as the head shave, there was a raffle, tombola, children’s Jiggy Wrigglers session, face painting, lucky dip, guess the name of the teddy, guess how many sweets are in the jar and guess the weight of the cake.

Raffle prizes were donated by Ace Designs, 1984 Bar and Beauty Liss, Barkers Farnham, Belle de Vie Petersfield, Between the Lines Petersfield, Boots Petersfield, Domino’s Petersfield, Elm Photo Studio Portsmouth, Garage Ceramics Chichester, The Great British Cake Shop Petersfield, Janet Newlands, Just You Liss, Liss Bakery, M&S Petersfield, Rose Garden Liss, Serenity Liss, Tesco Liss, Tesco Petersfield, Turtle Bean Liss, U Need Us Portsmouth, Vista Vision Liss, Vivid Imaginations, Waitrose Petersfield and WH Smith Petersfield.
