SAVE the Children Fund members and friends got to hear the latest news about the charity directly from the UK chairman during a meeting held in Petersfield.
Peter Bennett-Jones flew back from Beirut, where he had been overseeing Save the Children projects the day before he met more than 100 supporters of the charity in the Festival Hall in Petersfield.
As well as being behind TV series such as The Vicar of Dibley, he was chairman of Comic Relief and Sport Relief for many years.
A spokesman for the Petersfield branch of the charity said: “He gave an absorbing and informative talk on the invaluable work Save the Children undertakes in the UK and abroad and an insight into his commitment and involvement with the organisation.”
At the meeting Mr Bennett-Jones also presented a bouquet to Prue Scurfield, from Petersfield, who has been involved with the charity for 38 years.
Prue is now stepping down as secretary, and although not ready to retire from charity work entirely, she aims to take more of a back seat role.
The former branch chairman, who has twice been deputy chairman, as well as secretary and long serving committee member, said: “I hope to do some travelling, and I’m a friend of the Physic Garden in Petersfield, so I will be able to spend a more time there.”
