FORMER Alton College and Bedales student Freddie Stewart and his father, newsreader and journalist Alistair Stewart, returned to the college to meet old friends and host a question and answer event for current students in the Wessex Arts Theatre in the college grounds.

Alistair, who has four children and is the longest serving newsreader on British television, said: “We had a great time with delightful and bright young people at a terrific college.” Freddie, who studied A levels in photography, business studies and English literature at the college, and now runs several horse-based businesses, said: “I couldn’t have done any of it without the college’s help, advice and patience. I have very fond memories of the college.” He added that one of the reasons for his success since leaving school was that he tried to learn from everyone, “even if I didn’t like them,” he added.
