THERE will be plenty to see and do at the Liphook Carnival on Saturday.

All of the floats taking part in this year’s carnival need to be assembled in the procession on Longmoor Road by 5.30pm, and the judging of the floats, push and pull vehicles and adult fancy dress will be at 5.45pm.

Push and pull is a class for non-motorised vehicles, for example bikes, carts and wheelie bins.

Float classes this year are: children’s floats (decorated vehicles featuring mainly children), pubs and clubs, and trade floats.

The cups on offer this year are: The Tim Wheatley Cup (awarded by the committee), The Committee Cup (for best on the move), The Best Overall, Best Classic/Vintage Car, The Plummer Cup (for best illuminated float), Best Steam Vehicle and The John Carver Cup for Best Newcomer.

The procession will move off at 7pm, and the procession will return through the Square at 8.30pm before the traditional bonfire and firework display is held at Radford Park.

Liphook Carnival committee chairman Karen Feeney said: “Our Carnival Queen this year is Mollie Jones and she will be crowned in The Square at 6.45pm by local Paralympic gold medal winner Andy Kelsey. Our Princess is Isla Armstrong and the two attendants are Mia Ataou and Matilda West.

“We will have lots of entertainment in the Square from approximately 6.30pm onwards with the Surrey Pipe Band playing and talented local people performing circus tricks to keep people amused.

“Once the procession has finished why not head down to Radford Park to enjoy the free bonfire and fireworks display.”

The Methodist Church will once again be serving hot refreshments for people to enjoy at the carnival.
