THE LATEST figures show that unemployment in East Hampshire is continuing to fall, and the number of jobs in Petersfield is increasing.

The latest bulletin from Jobcentre Plus in Chapel Street reveals that those of all ages in East Hampshire claiming benefits has fallen by 20, to 425, the lowest figure in recent years.

This includes those aged 18 to 24 years old, of whom five recently got jobs, bringing the total in that age range to just 70.

A Jobcentre Plus spokesman said: “This continuing fall year-on-year, is great news. We are finding it hard to fill jobs at the moment, as there are more opportunities becoming available.”

Among the vacancies, are 10 new jobs at McDonalds in Petersfield, and ‘numerous’ vacancies for an agency that provides staff to Whitmans Laboratories in Petersfield.

Moneybarn in Petersfield are also recruiting for ten customer service agents due to an increase in business.

And interviewing starts soon at Havant Jobcentre for the 60 jobs at the new Marks and Spencer store in?Havant.

Petersfield claimants have been attending interview skills workshops to improve their prospects of gaining one of the jobs available at the new store.

The spokesman added: “There is also the North East Hants Jobs Fair in the Forest Community centre in Bordon on Thursday, June 30.

“Those from Petersfield and surrounding villages that can’t get there, free transport from Petersfield Square is being laid on.

“There will be many employers and apprenticeship providers there, as well as free workshops.”
