A village near Bordon has some of the luckiest kids in East Hampshire as they’ve been putting their amazing new play area through its paces.

Children around the district have been casting envious glances at Greatham as the village’s new playground has been officially opened.

Around £110,000 has been spent on the upgrade with the facility boasting a combination of adventure, toddler and inclusive play equipment.

A basket swing, fitness trail, trampoline, climbing tower and accessible roundabout are among its many features.

Rain threatened to stop play as wet conditions throughout March delayed its official opening by around a fortnight, with Selborne firm Sawscape carrying out the work.

But it was definitely worth the wait with EHDC’s Cllr Adeel Shah cutting the ribbon and cake on Saturday, April 27, in front of a large crowd of villagers.

The councillor, who chairs an EHDC panel that gave £19,000 funding towards the project, hailed the transformation before congratulating the tireless parish councillors and working party members who made the revamp become a reality.

He said: “This is a great example of a parish being passionate about providing for young people and offering a place where young people can enjoy the outdoors, play and meet other young people.

“It also provides an accessible facility which can serve a wider audience across the district. Well done to all those involved.”

Some £90,000 in funding came from the South Downs National Park Authority while the parish council also put forward a significant sum towards the project.
