FILM lovers in Petersfield are being asked to help select the programme for the New Year.

They have been given twenty films to choose from, to help organisers at The New Savoy Cinema at the Festival Hall, make the cut of the final eight, to be shown in the spring.

It is hoped this process of putting on the crowd pleasers will keep the audiences coming to the monthly showings.

Those on the mailing list have been sent the list of films, with reviews to help them decide.

The movies they will mull over are: Amy, A Walk in the Woods, Brooklyn, Burnt, Carol, Everest, Fathers and Daughters, He Named Me Malala, Hector, Legend, Macbeth, Sicario, Steve Jobs, Suffragette, Sunset Song, The Danish Girl, The Dressmaker, The Lady in the Van, The Martian and The Program.

Selections have to be made and sent back by Friday, November 27.

There are often sell-out audiences for the evening showing of the films, and around 50 or 60 for the afternoon films.

Coming up next month, on December 17, is poignant relationship drama 45 Years (cert 12A), starring Charlotte Rampling and Tom Courtenay, at 2pm for a 2.30pm start, and adventure drama The Water Diviner (cert 15), with Russell Crowe, at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.

There is no interval during the afternoon films. Ice-creams and sweets are on sale. There is a 20min interval in the evening films, with teas, wine, sweets and ice-creams available.

Tickets are £5, available from the town council office, on 01730 264182, One Tree Books, on 01730 261199, and on the door subject to availability.
