A MAD Hatter taking tea, a White Rabbit in a hurry and a Queen threatening to chop off heads – it’s no wonder the dormouse is hiding in the teapot.
With its cast of quirky and magical characters it can only be Alice in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll’s beloved tale of madcap and surreal adventure, and there is a chance to see it on stage in Petersfield from tomorrow night (Wednesday).
The curtain rises at the Festival Hall on the production by Petersfield Youth Theatre at 7pm and there are morning and evening shows of Alice, in a delightful adaptation of the Disney show, and of satirical masterpiece Candide.
The youth theatre are putting on both the plays in the run which ends on Sunday.
Candide is the brilliantly witty Enlightenment tale by French writer Voltaire of blind optimism by the eponymous hero in the face of harsh reality.
Expect theatrical fun, a relevant message to today’s world, and sumptuous costumes.
Performance times are: Alice in Wonderland at 7pm tonight, 6pm on Friday, 10am and noon on Saturday and 11am and 1pm on Sunday; and Candide at 7pm on Thursday, 8pm Friday, 3pm and 8pm on Saturday and 5pm on Sunday.
Tickets are available from One Tree Books in Lavant Street, on 01730 261199, or online at www.ticketsource.co.uk/petersfieldyouththeatre
