Meeting called as D-Day for Forestside oil well scheme nears

THERE should be standing room only in a village hall next Tuesday evening (December 13) when plans to extract oil from a woodland site near Finchdean come under the spotlight.

People from the Forestside area will be given an update on the application by UK Oil and Gas Investments (UKOG) to drill for oil beneath Markwells Wood.

Members of the Markwells Wood Watch will also discuss the next part of their campaign at the meeting, which will begin at 7pm in Forestside and Stansted village hall.

Nearly 2,000 objections have now been lodged with the South Downs National Park Authority ahead of the likely January D-Day.
