THE HEADLINE act at this year’s Meonfest is a tribute to one of the most popular British solo artists of all time.
The festival is now in its third year, and has become more popular each year.
A festival spokesman said: “We couldn’t let Meonfest 2016 pass without showing recognition to one of the greatest performers the UK has ever produced.
“Headlining the main stage is the amazing DavidLive, the very talented tribute band to the late, great David Bowie.”
Local talent booked to appear includes The Paper Trains, The Ohmz from the Isle of Wight, Chalk Flowers, Mark Vennis and Different Place, and Damiain Lodrick.
Opening the festival on Saturday, June 25, from 3pm to 11pm, is the East Meon Pop-Up Choir and East Meon School musicians.
Started by parents and school governors, Meonfest is once again raising money to extend the school hall.
A school spokesman said: “The school hall is cramped and can barely accommodate its 84 pupils at assembly time and isn’t big enough for physical education classes.
“There is room to extend it, and the estimated cost of this is £100,000.
“It would make assemblies and lunchtimes less of a squeeze and would allow parents to join their children for school events.
As well as the music, the festival’s environmentally friendly craft area is also expanding.
The spokesman said: “We wanted to have something for everyone, so alongside Juggling Jake and our fairground rides there are also more calming and creative activities.
“There will be the opportunity to create your own therapeutic Mandala, clay boggarts and also the chance to work on a larger scale installation made from willow and tissue paper.
“Not forgetting the flower garlands that can be proudly worn on the day.”
The festival is just two days after the national referendum to decide if the UK will stay in the European Union.
The spokesman added: “However you voted, and whichever way the result goes, come along and get over, or celebrate, the outcome at this truly family friendly festival.”
There will also be local food stalls, a bar and a Pimm’s bar. Details from the website www.meonfest.org.uk.
