THE SUN shone as Hollycombe Steam in the Country enjoyed its busiest weekend of the year.
The model weekend has grown in popularity since it was first staged just a few years ago, and this year Hollycombe welcomed a record number of exhibitors, who entertained a record-size crowd.
Being staged the weekend after the Great Dorset Steam Fair, many miniature engines were able to stop-off at Hollycombe on their way home, and a line-up of the miniature steamies on both the Saturday and Sunday afternoons proved a highlight of the weekend.
New for 2018 were displays from the Southern Armour Group, who had various radio controlled military models touring the site. The Portsmouth Model Boat Display also proved very popular, with a Second World War French village model tank battle display, complete with pyrotechnics, drawing large crowds.
Hollycombe Steam in the Country manager Simon Wildgust was delighted with how the event had gone.
Simon said: “As a last hurrah for the summer, we couldn’t have asked for more. The weather was perfect, we had a record number of displays and our exhibitors and guests seem to have really enjoyed the event, with lots of positive feedback. We’re already planning ahead for our model weekend in 2019.”
