IT WAS a proud and happy moment for Angela Ray as she presented a cheque of £1,200 to The Rosemary Foundation on Saturday.
The money was raised at a memorial service after her husband, Alistair Ray, died of cancer aged 63 in January, as previously reported in the Post.
Angela said:?“£670 will also be going to the Macmillan Trust in Midhurst as they have been fantastic too.”
The cheque was presented at the Rocky Appeal Giant Easter Market held at the Festival Hall.
Angela was in attendance at The Rosemary Foundation stall, with her sister, Caroline Hall.
Carol Bridges, a volunteer for The Rosemary Foundation was also there.
“The Rosemary Foundation helped when my mother and father were ill,” she said.
“I wanted to give something back, to help in a small way.”
The foundation hopes it raised more than £100 at the market – with the final figures still being tallied up.
Several good causes were present at the Giant Easter Market, but the whole event was to raise funds for the Rocky Appeal.
The appeal wants to reach its £2.4m target to buy a Da Vinci Robot, which promises to take surgery to a new level at Queen Alexandra?Hospital in Portsmouth.
The robot allows a surgeon to control the robot at the patient’s side, which will allow more precise operations to take place.
Appeals co-ordinator for the Portsmouth Hospitals NHS?Trust Mick Lyons said:?“These events are always important.
“Everyone wants to know what equipment is available and what isn’t.
“We’ve raised £1.25m of the £2.4m we need to pay for this Da Vinci Robot.”
