ENGINEERS are gearing up to start work on a new footpath and cycleway that will link Petersfield to Queen Elizabeth Country Park (QECP).

It can't come quickly enough for a handful of cyclists who paid a heavy price for using the life-threatening route the path will eventually replace.

The recent tragedy near Liphook has illustrated how dangerous the A3 can be for cyclists, yet the dual carriageway through the Butser cutting represents the most direct route for cyclists heading from Petersfield to QECP and villages south of the hill.

It's a scary prospect for any cyclist, but they will be looking down....
