NEW FACES added some extra competition at Froxfield and Privett Garden Club’s Summer Show.

The annual event was held at the village hall on Saturday and newcomer Mary Hansford won the Dee Kiddle Cookery Cup for best exhibit in the cookery classes with her lemon drizzle cake.

Jan Cole had an excellent day. She won the President’s Prize with the best exhibit from the horticultural classes, the Elizabeth Cawson Flower Arranging Trophy for her exquisite arrangement in a tankard, and the coveted Banksian Medal which is awarded to the member who has gained most points overall in the two club shows.

Shirley Reed won the Syd Hawkin’s Dahlia Cup while Tidda Dobbs won the Fruit Bowl Award, having gained first place in all four fruit classes. Yet again, Les Watson won the Mike Baker Onion Trophy and Jean Dow was awarded the Ladies Friendship Group Hanging Basket Trophy for the second year in a row.

The children’s classes were well supported by Froxfield Primary School, the Montessori playgroup and the Rainbow playgroup.

Show visitors also enjoyed the tea and cakes.
