THE FRIENDS of Petersfield Heath are all tooled up after using a Waitrose contribution to seal a deal with a town centre hire company.
Mark Greef, work-party leader for the volunteer group that looks after the beauty spot, secured the great deal with local plant-hire firm, Altis Industries of Bedford Road, which will aid the work of volunteers working to maintain the heath this season.
Altis supplied a selection of hand tools, including saws, loppers, spades, forks and rakes, all at cost price, which the group purchased with a £254 Waitrose donation from the store’s green chip initiative.
Richard Warton, Chairman of the Friends, said: “The new tools will be a great help in our autumn and winter programme of work on the Heath. We will be concentrating on maintaining the open glades and heathland, by removing bracken and saplings. The support of Altis is very much welcomed.”
