TWO FREE tennis programmes in Liss have got off to a flying start.

The two courses have been organised by Newman Collard Tennis Club (NCTC).

A free six-week adult tennis coaching programme, which is open to all adults, has begun at the club.

Six adults of all standards attended the first session, which was run by NCTC’s resident coaching team, Generation Tennis.

The aim of the six-week course is to provide an easy and fun way for adults to get into or return to the game.

Participants will be taught new skills or reminded of old ones and be shown how to serve, rally and score, so they will be able to enjoy fun matches with friends, family and other people on the course.

NCTC has also organised an eight-week tennis programme at Liss Junior School (LJS) for Year 5 and Year 6 pupils at the school.

The programme is a collaboration between NCTC, LJS and Generation Tennis.

The first session took place as planned in the school hall, and the first pupils were put through their paces with a series of warm ups and games that introduced them to racket and ball skills and stroke-play.

The funding for both of the two new tennis programmes has been provided in part by the festival coaching fund administered by NCTC. The fund was created in September 2017 when NCTC organised and hosted the first Liss Tennis Festival. All money raised from the festival was used to create the fund. It is the aim of the club to use the fund over the next few years to provide free tennis opportunities for residents. Additional programmes are also being planned for later this year, with successful programmes repeated in following years.
