THIS year’s popular Bygone Buriton local history exhibition, organised by Buriton History Bank, will have a special First World War focus.
As well as the war, topics for the displays will include changes to farming, the chalk quarries and lime works, how the community has developed and a chance to have a go at bell-ringing in St Mary’s Church, which is the venue for the exhibition from 1pm-4pm on September 29.
The previous evening, Professor Clive Harfield, grandson of a Buriton veteran of the First World War and who has been researching the stories of residents who fought, as well as those left behind, will be giving a talk ‘The Village That Went To War’, in Buriton Village Hall, at 7.30pm. Free entry.
