A COUNTY police station was built in St Peter’s Road, Petersfield, in 1858, and this photograph was taken in the yard there, probably towards the end of the Second World War.
It is part of the collection of Hampshire Constabulary’s historian Dr Clifford Williams, who has lent it to Diana Syms, of Petersfield, who has been researching and writing a booklet about the history of the town’s police which will be published in the autumn by Petersfield Museum – the current occupants of the former police and court buildings.
Although the text of the book has been written, more information is being sought about the people in this picture. If anyone can identify the police personnel, the Post will pass on details to Diana.
