Petersfield Museum’s extensive photographic archive holds more than 100,000 photographs of life in Petersfield and surrounding villages.

Dating as far back as the Victorian period, these photographs represent all areas of life in Petersfield and act as a window into Petersfield in days gone by.

This photograph from 1964 shows one of the demolition contractors working at the site of Clare Cross in the High Street.

The old Post Office next door and Child’s Bookshop further up the High Street – where the M&S Food Hall is now – were also demolished at this time.

Do you remember the demolition of these buildings? Do you recognise this demolition contractor? If so, we’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch by calling 01730 262601 or emailing [email protected]
