HAMPSHIRE County Council says there is still time for parents to comment on plans to reduce the council’s transport to school scheme.

If it goes ahead, the proposal will affect about 1,000 pupils; youngsters the council doesn’t need to transport to and from school by law, it says.

A council spokesman said: “The proposed changes, if agreed, would lead to a reduction in transport services that are provided at the council’s discretion – above and beyond what the council is legally required to deliver.

“This applies to under 1,000 young people who the council has supported either through local policy elements that go beyond the statutory minimum, or based on a family’s individual circumstances.”

Feedback on the proposals is invited through the council’s online consultation which is open until midnight on Tuesday, March 13.

A report on the feedback to the consultation will then be prepared by May for the council’s Executive Lead Member for Children’s Services, Councillor Keith Mans.

If the report recommendations are agreed, they could be implemented from September 1, 2018.

The consultation on proposed changes to the Home to School Transport Service and Post-16 Transport Service is available online at: www.hants.gov.uk/consultations
