A PETERSFIELD care home was ‘All Shook Up’ when staff threw an unusual 100th birthday party for a popular resident.
Staff at Downs House in Reservoir Lane have a lot of ‘Burning Love’ for Winifred Hillman so they threw an Elvis-themed party for the centenarian.
An Elvis impersonator joined the family celebration, which included cake and a card from the Queen, and a donkey called Mr Kipling was also on the guest list.
“What she really wanted was a strip-a-gram but she ended up with Elvis,” joked her grandson Trevor Hillman. “She’s has got quite a sense of humour.”
Mrs Hillman was born in 1917 on Orkney, but met her future husband, Maurice, while dancing on South Parade Pier in Portsmouth.
They married in South Harting in 1942 after being evacuated there during the Second World War, and after the war son Gary was born.
Maurice and Gary have passed away, but Winifred’s popularity has endured with dozens of residents joining her birthday celebrations.
And the atmosphere went up a notch when Elvis entered the building, but is Winifred a fan of the king and his music?
“Not really, but everyone enjoys a sing-song,” she said.
