THERE was no sibling rivalry for Victoria and Hugo Warren, of Petersfield, as they tackled the South Downs Way together for a good cause.
The brother and sister supported each other over the hundred miles, raising almost £1,000 for a friend’s toddler who needs surgery to help him to walk.
Three-year-old Thomas, who has cerebral palsy, was there at the finish line in Winchester to cheer the pair, with his twin brother Dylan and parents Nicci and Brian who had all driven down from their Oxford home.
“It was a wonderful moment, very emotional for all involved," said Victoria, who has had to overcome injuries from a fall from her bike to complete the course.
Thomas and Dylan were born nearly ten weeks early and, weighing less than 3lbs each, they had to fight to survive. Thomas’s diagnosis of cerebral palsy came at the age of two.
He continues to make good progress but is still unable to stand or walk independently. He needs selective dorsal rhizotomy surgery to increase his chances of being able to walk and live with aid. The National Health Service has recently opted to withdraw funding for this surgery, a potentially life changing procedure for children like Thomas.
Around £75,000 is needed. If you want to help, visit www.justgiving.com/fundraising/helpthomas2dance
