WE WOULD love to give our wonderful readers a penny for their thoughts.

But it seems a Petersfield resident has done just that by putting this unusual A-board up in the town centre.

Shoppers were quite literally given the chance to keep the change earlier this month when a resident of The Square put the board (pictured above) on the pavement opposite Rams Walk.

Between £30 and £40 in loose change was attached to the board but the installation was more about art, rather than generosity, according to a friend of the ‘artist’.

And perhaps even more surprisingly, it took the best part of a fortnight for all the change to disappear from the unlocked board.

“It was a piece of art he was doing about low wages and it was also about money,” said Dreamweaver Solstice, who lives in the same building as the artist concerned.

“We put some pound coins and a few 50p and 20p pieces on there and they went within minutes.

“We didn’t count the pennies but they were about the economy and how it keeps it going because people will spend £6.99 but not £7.

“We weren’t worried about someone stealing the board and we didn’t lock it up. It’s been an interesting experiment.”

Mr Solstice added that he and a few like-minded friends have a few more public art ideas in the pipeline.

He said: “We’re going to be doing something arty and a bit creative in The Square within the next couple of weeks.

“I’m pretty sure that it will get people talking and I think it could actually grow and grow.”
