A MAN’S dream of setting up a market garden in Liphook is a step closer.

Ed Brooks has received planning permission for a polytunnel for agricultural use at land north of Lake House Cottages, Liphook.

Ed has a business in Rake, and he is now moving it to Devil’s Lane, Liphook.

Ed will erect a poly tunnel for agricultural use on the agricultural land at the site, for growing vegetables to be sold locally at pubs and restaurants and shops.

Ed said: “I’m really delighted that I’ve been granted permission for my polytunnel and would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who wrote in supporting it.

“I’m looking forward to putting it up in February in time for the growing season to start, meanwhile I’m building compost bins, installing the farm infrastructure and preparing for our first pigs to arrive this month.”

Ed’s planning application received 14 letters of support.

One of the comments backing his proposal said: “The use of this land for the growing of vegetables can only be of benefit to the community.

“Produce grown locally for supply to small local businesses is to be applauded and some need of protection during the bad months is clearly a need.

“I wish this young grower all the success in the future.”

Another comment in support of the planning application said: “The proposal is in keeping with the character of the surrounding area.

“The small scale vegetable production will be a welcome contribution to the surrounding community and will have a positive environmental impact.

“The applicant has already proved that he can produce quality products for which there is a demand.”

Once the business is established in Liphook, Ed intends to get people in the community involved.
