HUNDREDS of personalised bricks are to be laid outside the new Petersfield Museum in St Peter’s Road.

They will form a commemorative mosaic at the front leading to a path into the courtyard at the back of the former Victorian police station.

The courtyard will also be used as an outdoor seating area for the new cafe incorporated in the converted police station.

A museum spokesman said: “At the front of the museum there will be brick paving, that will form a decorative pavement in front of the museum, and path going around to the back of the museum into the courtyard.”

More than 670 paving bricks featuring the names of those who bought them – including local individuals, families, societies and organisations or businesses – were paid for by those wishing to help fund the conversion works.

The chance to buy a brick closed on February 28 this year.

The bricks, all individually engraved, were then delivered to the museum, and sorted into the right order for laying.

The museum spokesman added: “A big thank you to everyone who bought a brick, and a big thank you also to Pearl Gosney, who has painstakingly checked and numbered more than 670 named bricks against our plan for the front forecourt!”
