WHEN it comes to appreciating music, Petersfield people are among the most discerning.
So says Peruvian-born tenor Miguel Moncloa who regularly regales passers-by in the town with opera classics.
Ave Maria and Nessum Dorma are favourites in the repertoire of the professional singer who travels the 100 mile round-trip to Petersfield from his Twickenham home each week.
“People from Hampshire are more appreciative than in other counties,” enthused Miguel.
“It is always very, very positive when I come to Petersfield. When I am singing the environment is beautiful. You transfer through your voice the beauty to the people. It’s magical.”
Miguel, whose wife is also an opera singer, gave up his job as a pensions administrator at Lambeth Council, where he found the atmosphere too negative, to pursue his street singing dream.
