LOCAL artists, Sarah and Mike Wallace have opened an exhibition in One Tree Books in Petersfield’s Lavant Street to celebrate their Golden Wedding anniversary.
Sarah and Mike are active members of Petersfield Arts & Craft Society. Their exhibition, originally planned for March 2021, is taking place at the kind invitation of One Tree.
It will reflect the very varied work that they both create.
Sarah, who works in watercolours and acrylic will have on show work that reflects her unconventional approach and eclectic style. She is motivated by a sense of history and its relationship to scenery and the environment, sometimes with views of Petersfield and the surrounding areas.
Mike works primarily with threads and textiles. He has been creating woven tapestries for over 20 years, and these can vary from the very small to seriously large.
The same applies to his work creating quilts, fabric collages and also some work using paper. A very varied style that is his hallmark.
Both enjoy working with colour, and gain inspiration from local scenery, both urban and rural. They are avid walkers, and this frequently can spark an idea that eventually results in something in an artwork.
“We believe that the very different styles and techniques that each of us uses really complements the other’s work, and adds interest for the viewer”
The exhibition is open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm, and will run into early May.
