A PETERSFIELD resident who moved away from Scotland more than 40 years ago has written a novel based in the country.
Susan Napier, from Durford Wood, has had her book Undercurrents published. Writing as Susie Napier, she tells the story of Fiona Lindsay in Scotland during the first five years of the 1960s.
She is 21 and is at a crossroads in her life and must decide between familiar Edinburgh but feeling lonely or joining her friends in London. The story tells of shocking revelations and an unexpected meeting triggers developments which forces her to reassess her life.
Susan (70), said it was a joy to write the story. “It started off as a short story because I was doing quite a lot of writing short stories and poems. It just grew from there,” she said.

Susan said it was good for her to go back to her earlier years in Scotland.
“I grew up in Scotland. I moved down here in 1971 when I got married,” she said.
“But I go back to Scotland on a regular basis because I have still got relatives living there. It holds a big place in my heart. It’s very beautiful.”
Susan said she is proud of her achievements having had her book published.
“I have got tremendous satisfaction,” she said. “I enjoyed the process of writing very much.
“It was really rather pleasant to invent your own ideas. It did bring back memories.
“I missed it a lot when I stopped writing but I am now working on a sequel.
“I am very proud of it. I just felt I had achieved something. I never thought that I had a book in me.”
