THE SERVING of a pot of tea so stirred a visitor to Petersfield he wrote an ode to the tea room and presented it to the owners.
Ray Bastin, from Waterlooville, often day trips to Petersfield, and while wandering around one of “his favourite towns” often enjoys a cup of tea in its many varied popular cafes.
He said: “I was on a visit to Petersfield, it’s one of my favourite towns, and it was a nice day, everyone was saying hello, it was just a good day.
“There are a lot of good cafes in Petersfield, and I came across Julie’s Tearooms in Bakery Lane by chance.
“Julie and her husband Simon are very friendly people, couldn’t do enough for me, and I was served a lovely pot of tea.
“It has a wonderful atmosphere and I enjoyed it so much I went back again later that day for a second helping.
“The experience helped round off a great day, so when I got home I decided to write a poem of appreciation and present it to them.
“I think if someone does something special or gives cheerful service it’s only right to thank them, and this is my way of saying how much I enjoyed their cafe.”
His literary endeavours so impressed the couple they plan to hang the poem on the wall of their premises.
