PETERSFIELD’S Town Development Committee is to consider if the town should host an eco-fair.
The town council and grant-funded advisory committee is to debate the topic at its monthly 3pm Zoom meeting on Friday.
Members will hear a recent eco-fair in Alton was a great success, and that Petersfield should consider holding one.
In a letter to the committee, Alton council clerk Leah Coney said the outdoor fair cost about £1,900, of which £1,500 was for the hire of a marquee, £300 for event toilets, and £150 for first-aid cover.
She added it took council officers between 90 and 100 hours to organise the fair, and it received a £1,000 grant from East Hampshire District Council members as this event fit their ‘environmental’ criteria.
She added: “I would say the success depends to an extent on how it is pitched. I think there is a tendency for some of these events to come across as a bit militant and accusatory.
“So we went for Earth Friendly Living as our slogan as it sounded informal, but informative and fun.”
The meeting minutes, including the eco-fair decision, will be on the website at https://www.petersfield-tc.gov.uk
