Provisional plans to bring a circus to a green space in Petersfield have been given a ringing endorsement by a town council committee.

Members of the Sports, Recreation and Environment Committee have raised no objection to The Avenue Playing Fields potentially hosting a circus in the future.

Councillors were asked for their thoughts as a circus firm recently got in touch with PTC about using the site before withdrawing their application.

“I think it’s fine to have a circus there,” said SREC chair, Cllr Jamie Matthews, adding: “Circuses have taken place there in the past, but not in recent years, but I think it’s a great location for one.”

Regardless, committee approval will be needed for any future circus requests.
