A PETERSFIELD diabetes sufferer is ‘nervous’ and ‘excited’ as she prepares for her first marathon in aid of charity.
Three years ago Laura Stockley (33) of York Close was rushed to Queen Alexandra hospital in Cosham in an ambulance after feeling unwell, and was immediately diagnosed as having diabetes.
The former pupil at The Petersfield School said: “It was a shock, there is no history in my family of it, and I didn’t know anyone with it.
“But I am determined that having diabetes won’t stop me doing things.
“ I am excited about running the Yorkshire Marathon in York, but I am also nervous in case it aggrevates my diabetes.
“I started training for this in May, and have done three half marathons in preparation for it, but this is my first full marathon.
“I am running to raise money for Diabetes UK because they are continually researching better ways to treatments, particularly for those who are insulin dependent, which I am thankfully no longer.
“I also hope that by raising awareness of diabetes it helps even just one person to know that it does not have to stop them from living a normal life.”
The marathon is on Sunday, October 9, and to sponsore Laura visit her just giving page www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Laura-Stockley83
