THE HEAD of the group which organises Petersfield’s annual fireworks display believes this year’s show could be a record-breaker.

Proceeds from Saturday’s spectacular show at Bell Hill are edging towards the £13,500 mark, according to Alex Godwin.

The Round Table chairman said funds are still being counted but the total, if accurate, would exceed the £13,000 record set in 2016.

“It was a great evening and we had a great time,” said Mr Godwin, who reckons around 3,500 people attended the annual show.

“We finished building the guy at 1pm on the day and everything went like clockwork, which was quite amazing. It’s also the first year we’ve had fire dancers perform before the lighting and they went down really well, too.”

Although the bonfire was a bit of a “slow burner” many residents believed this year’s display was the best yet.
