A GRUELLING charity hike along the South Downs will be a family affair for a Petersfield team which is “Truly Over The Hill”.

Ian Crawford and his grandson, Aidan Sanders, will attempt to walk 100 kilometres along the South Downs this weekend along with Jones Agyeman and Julian Maicheal.

The quartet have signed up to the Trailwalker 2018 in which more 400 teams will attempt to walk from Queen Elizabeth Country Park to Brighton in under 30 hours.

The annual event is held in aid of Oxfam and the Gurkha Welfare Trust but it’s fair to say Mr Crawford is familiar with the terrain.

This year’s Trailwalker will be his 20th while the efforts of Ian and his previous “Truly Over The Hill” teammates have raised around £30,000 for the good causes in total.

He’s persuaded his grandson and Townhouse worker, Aidan, to take part in this year’s challenge, which is the equivalent of completing more than two marathons and climbing Ben Nevis in one session.

“This year it is a privilege to welcome my grandson, Aidan Sanders, who is keen to undertake this formidable challenge,” said Mr Crawford.

“We’re doing it because because funds are desperately needed to continue rebuilding homes and schools in Nepal following the two devastating earthquakes in 2015.”
