PUPILS and staff at Petersfield Infants enjoyed World Book Day a week late this year, thanks to the recent snowy weather.

The world wide celebration of books was on Thursday, March 1 – but that day Petersfield was in the middle of the ‘Beast from the East’ blizzards.

A school spokesman said: “The school was closed because of the snow, so we held World Book Day today (March 9) instead, and the children and staff had an imaginative and fun time.”

Pupils at the school in St Peter’s Road dressed up as their favourite book characters, including mutant ninja turtles, the witch from Meg and Mog, spiderman, and host of other story time heroes and heroines.

School head teacher Allyson Crew, who came to school as Mary Poppins, complete with umbrella, said: “We had everything from Super Potato to the Worst Witch.

“The children and staff thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to dress up and talk about their favourite storybook character.”
