A PETERSFIELD man has raised more than £5,000 for stray dogs by living in a kennel for a week.

Self-employed graphic designer Johan Lamprecht has lived in Balmoral Way for about 18 months and volunteers at the Horley Public Kennels, a facility near Gatwick Airport which looks after stray dogs.

His Sleep Ruff challenge was aimed at highlighting the plight of homeless dogs, and to fund raise for the Rescue Remedies Dog Rescue charity in Richmond, Surrey.

It saves dogs likely to be put down because homes can’t be found for them.

Johan (27) said: “So far I have raised £5,412, far more than I ever thought I would and I’m overjoyed with that.

“The week was difficult and challenging, it was very cold at times and the floor was hard so I often struggled to sleep, but the dogs loved it, and it was great to meet many I hadn’t met before.

“Parts of my week were definitely fun and other bits definitely weren’t, but during the day I walked dogs and helped out around the kennels, which I enjoyed.

“Thanks to everyone who has helped share my challenge on social media, which played a very big role in the success of this fundraiser, and those like the Petersfield Post who publicised it, that so much has been raised, and donations are still coming in.

“A huge, huge, thank you to absolutely everyone who has helped in any way with the fundraiser and a big thank you to all the awesome dogs who happily welcomed me into their kennels too.”

His Sleep Ruff challenge started on Monday, October 2, and donations are still welcome via the webpage www.tinyurl.com/sleeping ruff
