SUPPORTERS of Petersfield Museum enjoyed three course dinner to mark the end of an era.

The sold out evening was in the Flora Twort Gallery in Church Walk, Petersfield, which has been sold and will be converted back into a house.

Flora Twort (1893 to 1985) is the best known Petersfield artist, and since 1991 her work has been exhibited in her former home.

But now the museum trustees have sold it to help fund the massive conversion of the former Petersfield Police Station into a museum and art gallery.

The trustees say Flora’s two storey cottage couldn’t be made access friendly without major work, which would have shrunk the exhibition space considerably.

They say there will be a dedicated art gallery in the police station once the conversion is finished.

Flora’s work, and that of other artists, will be exhibited there.

Museum trustee Bill Gosney said: "The dinner was the end of an era at the Flora Twort Gallery, as it has been sold to become someones home.

"The evening was sold out and enjoyed by everyone, the food provided by Sue Rodber was outstanding.

"Profit from the evening will go toward the huge cost of converting the police station."
