That’s a common misconception – Henry VIII’s famous flagship was, in fact, a successful warship of the king for 34 years, almost the entire duration of his reign.

Discovered in 1971 after being stuck at the bottom of the Solent for more than 400 years, the Mary Rose captured the imagination and intrigue of the nation. With the world watching, the wreck was raised from the sea bed in 1982 and is now, after years of painstaking conservation, visible to the public at the Mary Rose Museum in Portsmouth.
This talk, given by a member of the Mary Rose Trust, will delve into the stories surrounding the ship’s discovery, excavation, lifting and restoration.
