PETERSFIELD Open Air Swimming Pool has applied for a licence to show films, put on bands, play music and sell alcohol.

But pool manager Deborah Mitchell said although the licence would allow alcohol to be supplied from noon to 11pm, Monday to Sunday, drink will only be sold at special events, of which there would be perhaps a handful each season.

She added: “The intention is to be able to sell and serve alcohol at special events after 6pm during the adult lane swimming sessions only, and not to sell alcohol during the day, unless for special events and private hires at which there would be two trained lifeguards available at all times during the session.”

If the licence application is approved by East Hampshire District Council, it will allow films to shown at the pool from noon to 11pm, for live music to be played from noon to 10pm, and recorded music from noon to 11pm.

The application also asks for dancing to be allowed at the pool in the Festival Hall car park from noon to 11pm, on Mondays to Sundays.

It is also hoped to sell refreshments outside the pool buildings on the pool patio area, from 11pm to 1am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Deborah said the licence, including the film, music and dance part of it, had only been applied for so that the pool can be used for one-off events and private hires.

She added: “This license will be more beneficial than applying for temporary licenses for each event costing the pool money each time.

“The licence in this application will be used responsibly, and we will be keeping the safety of our swimmers a priority.”
