HANDMADE Remembrance Day poppies are on display in a Petersfield phone box.

The crocheted and knitted poppies in the disused Cranford Road kiosk are on sale to help raise funds for the annual Poppy Appeal.

Cranford Estate Residents Association member Sylvia Hawkes and chairman Jeanette Nunn are making the knitted poppies, while their friend Dawn Connolly is the crochet expert.

Jeanette said: “We were very pleased to raise £125 last year by selling knitted poppies, and the crocheted ones are new this year.

“We are doing it for the 100th anniversary of the First World War and will continue knitting and selling them each year for the four years of the anniversary, so they are a bit of a limited edition.”

The association is asking for a donation, minimum £1, for each poppy, and Jeanette’s telephone number is on the door of the phone box, which the association uses as a noticeboard the rest of the year. Contact Jeanette on 01730 300413.

She said: “People can ring me at any time and I will come out and open the phone box and sell them a poppy. All the money goes to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, which is spent helping Servicemen.”
